1.Be aware of the voice within.
Be careful of how you talk to yourself. We talk to ourselves all day long and our conversations either promote fears and anxiety or give us confidence. What types of conversation are you having?
2. Change the conversation.
Our thoughts manifest as words. Our words become deeds. Deeds develop into habits and our habits dictate our emotional well being. Negative self-talk is merely a bad habit. Write down 3 positive affirmations you can substitute when you start drifting into negative, anxiety producing, self-talk.
3. Move a muscle; change a thought.
Our physiology on the outside reflects how we feel on the inside. When feeling anxious try smiling, stand tall, head-up, and breathe deeply, and you can instantly change the way you feel. Try it. It works.
4. Listen to your conscience.
Your conscience is there to keep you out of trouble. With a clear conscience you have much less to worry about. Lack of anxiety and peace of mind is a byproduct of a clear conscience.
5. Change your focus.
Most fears are misguided imaginings. Anxiety develops from the misuse of the imagination. Be in the present moment, not focusing on yesterday’s challenges or tomorrow’s imaginary problems. Stop focusing on the bad things that have happened and start enjoying the miracle of this moment.
Rather than focusing on past failure or future imaginary problems stay focused on the here and now. When you find yourself drifting into an unproductive thinking pattern an easy way to interrupt the pattern is to change your focus by substituting new empowering affirmations. Another way is to ask yourself better questions. A few examples might be;
How can I use this fearful experience to my advantage?
Who knows how to solve this problem?
Can I use their experience to solve my problem?
Who is already achieving the results I want to achieve?
Stop rehearsing old fears and take a different action. Stop focusing on the perceived bad things that have happened to you and start focusing on all the good things you have in your life.
This type of positive reinforcement is the first step of overcoming your fears. This is an easy way of developing a new habit. A habit is simply a learned skill we develop through repetition. Your negative limiting thoughts are a bad habit. Write down your positive affirmations and repeat them several times daily. This is an easy way to rewrite the software in your mind.
